Frequently asked questions

What happens to my current licence if I join BarTender Subscription Advantage?

You keep the same licence you already have, including your Product Key Code and Support Number, but it converts to a subscription. This gives you access to subscription-only features and cheaper add-ons, without starting over on licensing.

How is Subscription Advantage different from a standard Maintenance & Support Agreement?

Subscription Advantage includes everything Maintenance & Support does, plus more. You get access to subscription-only features such as Intelligent Forms and BarTender Designer Online, printer add-ons and edition upgrades at the lower subscription price, and forgiveness of any reactivation fees when you sign a 3-year agreement.

Can I still add printers or upgrade my edition after converting?

Yes. You can continue to add printers and upgrade editions while on the programme. The only change is that these are priced at the subscription rate rather than the perpetual licence rate, which helps reduce upfront costs.

Will I still get technical support if my current version of BarTender is unsupported?

You'll need to update to the current version of BarTender to access technical support. Subscription Advantage ensures you always have access to the latest version, so you can update whenever you're ready.

Can I leave the programme once I've joined?

Yes, but only after completing at least three years on the subscription programme. If you revert to a perpetual licence at that point, you'll receive the same licence you had before converting, except for the software version. Any printer add-ons or edition upgrades added while on the programme will be removed.

What's the difference between on-premises and cloud deployment?

On-premises gives you full control over server configuration, performance, and data residency, suited to organisations with strict security or regulatory requirements. Cloud deployment reduces IT overhead, lets your team design and print from anywhere, and scales more easily as your operation grows. Many organisations use a mix of both.

Are BarTender 12's new features available on-premises, in the cloud, or both?

It depends on the feature. File Drop integrations are now available for both on-premises and cloud deployments. BarTender Designer Online and Direct Cloud Printing for Zebra are currently cloud-only. Sciamed can help confirm which features apply to your specific deployment.

What is BarTender Track & Trace, and is it a separate product?

Track & Trace adds RFID-based item and asset tracking on top of your existing label data, covering counting, locating, and reporting on inventory and assets. It works alongside BarTender's labelling software rather than replacing it. Speak to Sciamed about whether it's licensed separately for your setup.

Do I need to be a large organisation to use BarTender?

No. BarTender is built to scale from a single site with a handful of printers up to enterprise-wide deployments across multiple locations, so the right edition and deployment option depends on your current operation rather than your size alone.

How do I know which edition or licensing model is right for us?

It depends on your existing infrastructure, compliance requirements, and how much control your IT team needs over deployment. Contact Sciamed and we'll help you work out the right combination of edition, deployment, and licensing model for your operation.
